- My guess: since they're going for the high end modem market, they tried to
- add every bell and whistle they could think of to the next generation
- product. The first problem was that getting all that hardware to work took
- too long, which also somewhat delayed the software. Had the modem come out
- a year earlier, when the ink on the first version of the V.34 standard was
- not quite dry, customers would have been more forgiving of problems and by
- now, a year of debugging and enhancements later, it would have been a fine
- product. Six months or a year from now, the next version of the analog
- Elite will probably be a stable, working, featureful, competitive V.34+
- product, worth the cost for those who need the high end hardware features,
- and the Omni will be there for those who don't need the extra hardware or
- upgradability. They've just taken way too long.
